Tiger Run Supports Homeless Clinics

And they were off! About 140 runners didn't let 22mph winds and the season's first big chill stop them from supporting LSU Health New Orleans medical students' 2016 Tiger Run. The annual 5k run/walk raised funds for the LSU Health New Orleans Student-Run Homeless Clinics.

Tiger Run
For more than 20 years, LSU Health New Orleans medical students, under faculty supervision, have treated the underserved and disadvantaged at shelters. They established their first clinic at the New Orleans Mission and have since added a clinic at the Ozanam Inn that also provides dental services in collaboration with LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry students and faculty. The clinics offer a myriad of clinical services at both locations each week, as well as referrals for specialized care within the LSU Health system.
Despite the brisk weather, some worked up a sweat, including Drs. Donna Neumann and Ted Weyand!

Some ran, some walked, and some rode in the comfort of a stroller. Participants even included canine companions.

It was the 30th Annual Tiger Run. Besides the 5k run/walk through Audubon Park, race day activities included a post-race party with games, drinks, food, and an awards ceremony. Awards were given for fastest male runner, fastest female runner, and fastest team.

It was a great time for a great cause. The LSU Health New Orleans Student-Run Homeless Clinics are fully organized and staffed by teams of medical students at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine who are expertly trained and passionately dedicated to serving the community needs of the New Orleans area at their most fundamental aspect: health.

The student-run clinics are financially supported by community donations and grants, and draw vital support from beneficiaries who recognize the value of the students' commitment to the underserved. Monetary donations directly fund the resources, equipment, and budget of the clinics and the students are most grateful for any financial assistance. Donations are managed through the LSU Health New Orleans Foundation, which is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. If you missed this year's Tiger Run and would like to help, click here.
